SYMI Getting Around Symi One of the pleasures whilst staying on Symi is to explore some of her beauty spots and more remote monasteries etc, the best way is on foot. Many of the smaller churches and historically interesting places can actually only be reached in this way. There are a couple of excellent walking-guide-books available which include both short walks and several-hour routes. Alternatively, there are guided, group walks throughout the season. Many of the smaller beaches can only be accessed by water taxi-boat, these leave regularly from Yialos and Pedi during the summer months. Another perfect way to discover the more secluded bays is to take a boat excursion, there are 2 boats operating during the summer months, offering a choice of destination with or without a guided walk and/or a barbeque lunch. It is also possible to visit nearby islands including Tilos & Kos (not usually same day return) and there are shopping trips to Dacca in Turkey - all dependent on weather conditions. The Symi bus operates hourly from Yialos with a winding route up into the Village then down to Pedi. At certain times of the day, for the benefit of locals living there, it goes further up into the Chorio en-route. There are several taxis which will drive you to some of the larger bays, a smaller bus goes to the Panormitis monastery complex twice daily during the season.
